Shaun Farrington

My musical journey began at 11 at a Stoke-on-Trent High School.

I was encouraged to take up the trombone by my head of music.  I had lessons and joined ensembles provided by the City Music Service.  I believe that Music Services are important as without them many children would not get the opportunity to discover music, myself included.  Without the lessons and opportunities provided by the Music Service my family would not have been able to fund lessons privately and I would not be where I am today.

I am now employed as a Peripatetic Music Teacher for Stoke-on-Trent City Music Service. In this role I deliver brass teaching (individual, small group and whole class) in many City schools.  I also conduct the City Youth Wind Orchestra and the Brass Ensemble.  I have been teaching for the Service since I graduated from the University of Salford in 2005. As an instrumental teacher I enjoy the opportunity to share my love of music, in particular brass instruments, with my pupils.  I hope to encourage each of them to fulfil their potential and to benefit from the opportunities provided especially within ensemble membership.

I also hold the position of bass trombonist in Foden’s Brass Band. Foden’s are a Championship section band and were 2018 National Champions.  Being a member of Foden’s has provided me with many exciting opportunities to perform at many prestigious venues both nationally and internationally.
