Choirs and School Clubs

City Music Service runs a variety of in-school music groups to suit children of all ages and at all stages of their musical development.

City Songbirds

(Years 1 – 3)

City Songbirds is a unique programme which has been running since October 2002 providing opportunities for young children to:

  • learn songs and musical skills
  • enjoy singing in a fun environment
  • improve co-ordination and listening
  • increase confidence and self-esteem
  • improve mental health and wellbeing
  • develop literacy, phonics and numeracy skills
  • perform together in massed concerts
  • progress to City Voices and/or The City Youth Choir

Sessions takes place on a weekly basis in school settings, led by an expert member of our CMS teaching staff and supported by a member of school staff. City Songbirds perform twice a year at the Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-Trent. Coach transport for these events is provided free of charge.

City Songbirds was a finalist in the Primary/Early Years category at the 2015 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence.

“I am replying to thank and congratulate you and your team on yet another wonderful event and opportunity for our children. The passion and dedication of all is clear to see and feel. Our children, families and staff thoroughly enjoyed the showcase and we are all looking forward to the next one in June.”

Principal

“I would just like to say a big thank you for having us at the Songbird Concert last week. You all put so much effort in to putting on the production which makes it a great experience. The children definitely enjoyed it because they are still talking about it!”
