Stoke CMS Alumni

Charlotte Ferry

I was heavily involved with CMS from age 8 – 18, starting off in the Training Choir and Training Wind Orchestra and later moving onto the Youth Wind Orchestra and Youth Orchestra.

The staff at CMS inspired me to pursue a career in music through their great leadership and obvious passion. I had some amazing opportunities, performing all over Stoke-on-Trent and attending a range of workshops with the RAF Central Band, Halle Orchestra, Pete Long and Mike Mower.

I went on to study music at the University of Huddersfield, completing both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees there, before embarking on a career in Arts Admin. Since 2013 I’ve worked in the Orchestras and Ensembles Department at the RNCM as the Assistant Orchestras and Ensembles Manager and now, Manager. These roles have given me the opportunity to work closely with various local Orchestra’s, Conductors and Soloists. I’ve even worked with Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs on a recording project and got to reminisce about his visits to the Youth Wind Orchestra and the CMS trip to RAF Central Band.

Alongside my work I’ve continue to perform, serving as a Lance Corporal from 2010-2018 in the Band of the Yorkshire Regiment as principal flute/piccolo. I still regularly play with a variety of amateur orchestras around Greater Manchester, continuing to use the skills I developed whilst I was member of CMS.
